RISING SUN — (Forgey) Barbara Elizabeth Forgey Weinstock, age 71, died in her home in Rising Sun on March 19th. Barbara was born in Phillipsburg, NJ to educators Winchester and Jane Forgey on October 13, 1950; she spent her childhood and early adulthood with her four sisters Pamela, Deborah, Rebecca, and Suzannah in New Jersey. She is survived by her husband Steve, daughter Erin, son Ian, and unbelievably adorable puppy Lil' Bit. Her ashes will be interred with her mother's family in Milbrook, NJ on April 28th; a celebration of her life will take place later this summer.

Barbara studied education in college but ultimately found greater joy as a nurse. One of her greatest joys in life was her garden. One only had to look to it to understand where her heart lay. Another of her favorite pastimes was choir, and she loved singing in the Schola Cantorum. Barbara spent a summer in South Korea in 1970 and brought Korea back home with her. Barbara had been an active member of Delaware Valley Zen Center. We cancomfort ourselves in knowing that she has been released from suffering and is at peace (especially now that that forty-year-old son of hers finally gave her a granddaughter last year).

Sadly, another name and face is added to this page:

John Karol Figa, Sr., age 68 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Somerville, NJ, January 3, 1950, son of the late Leslie and Emily Joan Figa, John was a lifelong area resident.

A 1968 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School, John entered the United States Air Force upon graduation and served until 1972, when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant.

Upon his return, he entered Trenton State and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He later would go on to earn his PMP (Project Management Professional) designation, of which he was most proud.

After graduation, John went to work for Davis-Standard as a Project Manager and worked there until retiring in 2016. He loved his work, and it provided him the opportunity to travel around the world working on various projects.

Additionally, he was the owner and operator of “The Hobby Shop”, located in the Flemington Shopping Center for many years.

He served on the Raritan Township Committee; as a Coach for Flemington-Raritan Baseball (where he was instrumental in getting lighting for the fields); and was a longtime communicant of St. Magdalen Church. Always supportive, he was the one who would listen and give sound advice on almost any matter. He always pushed his children to live up to their potential, and always reminded them that no dream was out of reach.

Surviving three heart attacks, John developed lung cancer two years ago and the way he approached his diagnosis with hope, resilience, and always with positivity, will never be forgotten by all who knew him and will be forever inspired by him. He would want anyone reading this to remember and live by these words, ” Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us day by day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and forever dear.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Michael Dostal.

Obituary:

BIGGER
JOEL R., VMD.
Age 67, of Mt. Lebanon, suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, February 5, 2018, in the company of his beloved wife. Cherished husband of Peggi Kelley for over forty years; loving father of Rory (Jessie) of San Antonio, TX, and Kevin of Brooklyn, NY; devoted grandfather of Nora and Nolan; brother of Sarah Burton of Summit, NJ; also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, R. Paul and Nora Stewart Bigger; and siblings, Elizabeth, H. Stewart and Richard (surviving spouse Karen) Bigger. Joel was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in 1968. He earned his BS in Geology at the University of Pittsburgh in 1972, where he also met Peggi, the love of his life and future wife. Although he had always loved animals and had many pets as a child, working as an assistant to the veterinarian at the Pittsburgh Zoological Society sparked his interest in veterinary medicine as a career. Joel moved to Philadelphia to earn his Veterinary Medicine Doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania, before he and Peggi moved back to Pittsburgh in 1979 when Joel accepted a job offer from Dr. Thomas Moore at the Avalon Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Bigger continued to work there for the next 35 years with co-workers who became family and clients who became lifelong friends. After his retirement in 2014, Joel was able to enjoy his many passions: gardening, photography, traveling, going to the theatre, and taking long walks with his Sheltie, Pixel. He truly loved the theatre. He and Peggi were dedicated patrons of multiple local theatre companies, a love that rubbed off on his son, Kevin, who went on to work on Broadway. His love of gadgets and making things work was passed on to Rory who became an engineer. Joel's love of travel started with many cross-country road trips with his parents and siblings in his childhood, which he later re-created with Peggi in the 1970s and with their boys in the 1990s. In retirement, he enjoyed many trips to Texas to spend time with his grandchildren and took one final epic adventure with Peggi to Tanzania to go on safari this past November. As the child of an immigrant parent, Joel was strongly supportive of immigrant rights and equal rights for all humans. The family will not be holding a visitation; a celebration of Joel's life will be held at a later date. For those who would like to remember Joel, the family suggests memorial contributions to Spencer and Friends Animal Rescue, spencerandfriend@aol.com; Kinetic Theatre, P.O. Box 9246, Pittsburgh, PA 15224; or any other local arts, animal rescue, LGBTQ+ or immigrant rights organization of the donor's choice.
